Too Wet To Plant Maize

Howell Farm staff Kathy Brilla, volunteers Michael Reames and Dan Kraueter observe muddy field.Howell Farm’s corn planting event Saturday, May 15 changed its course due to the previous day’s deluge. The field conditions were considered too wet to plant the farm’s yearly crop of corn with horsedrawn planter. Despite that, the mild and clear Saturday weather brought many visitors out to the farm to join in shelling & grinding corn, some hand planting, but most of all eating old-fashioned homemade cornbread!

Corn will be planted as soon as weather permits. Check the crop report for any updates on field conditions.
