Harrowing the Potato Field

Today I took Chris and Jake and pulled the spike-tooth harrow over the potato field. It is day 17 since the potatoes were planted, and no sign of them is showing. The spike-tooth harrow works about 2 inches deep, digging up the many weed seedlings that have emerged since the potatoes were planted, but without damaging the potatoes. It also serves to level the field, which is left a bit rough when planted while plowing. The levelling will make cultivating the potatoes much easier because the cultivator will run more smoothly at an even depth in a levelled field. — Farmer Rob
